What do you think of when you hear the word “Motel”? The answers are no doubt varied depending on what you may have experienced yourself or have heard about motels. There are also variances from country to country.
Generally, though, motels have a niche market in the accommodation industry. Traditionally, the word “motel” was a word taken from the term “motorist’s hotel.” This “motorist’s hotel” was used to indicate a type of hotel that was on a main highway route, that had more than ample parking and easy access to the rooms, with the doors to each room facing directly into the parking area.
Sometimes seen as a hotel’s distant cousin, motels are a great accommodation option for the road tripping, down to earth traveller. A good motel will offer you a clean functional room and bathroom facilities. There may or may not be extra facilities within a common area that you can partake of.
When you first read the opening question – did you say to yourself, “a place where I can rent a self-contained unit”? More than likely, you did not. For some reason, motels are most often considered as places that provide singular rooms to rent and not much more.
This is where Greenlane Manor really can offer you a point of difference. We cater for all sorts of accommodation requirements. If a single room is what you’re after – we have that. If you are wanting adjoining rooms – we have that. If you are wanting a self-contained unit – we have that too. We can even accommodate guests with disability requirements.
Greenlane Manor provides guests who choose from one of our deluxe executive studios a full kitchenette. This allows guests that stay with us to self-cater if they want to or choose to. Choosing a self-contained unit will offer several benefits to you over staying at a hotel.
- More space. This is one of the biggest upsides, particularly if you’re staying in Auckland for a long period of time. Our deluxe executive studios do not confine you just to a bed in a room. You get a large studio room with a King or Queen bed, kitchenette, seating, ensuite bathroom and patio/balcony. Having the extra space can help you avoid the feeling of confinement – particularly if you’re on a long business trip and just need to unwind someplace “homely” after a day of work. There is even room for a road bike if you decide on cycling through nearby Cornwall Park!
- A convenient configuration for family or group Greenlane Manor can offer you adjoining rooms when you book our Deluxe King studios. These interconnecting units will provide 1 King bed and 1 single bed in each room (sleeps up to 6 people). Having adjoining access rooms work well for couples who are traveling with children or with another couple – it allows everyone to have their privacy and/or space, but you can still interact together in either studio. The bonus with this option is the two bathrooms and two TV’s.
- A kitchenette. You may not be planning on doing much cooking during your stay, but a kitchen with a fridge and microwave can be great for heating up leftovers from restaurant meals, storing late night snacks and drinks, or getting a quick breakfast before you start your day. At Greenlane Manor our kitchenette’s have hot plates as well which give guests the option of preparing a simply cooked meal. Another benefit to staying in a unit with a kitchenette is for those guests who have special dietary requirements or want to eat meals at different It is especially helpful to have if you are travelling with children.
- The price. A self-contained unit will often work out cheaper than an equivalent hotel option. At Greenlane Manor our rooms are perfect for corporate travellers who need to be away from home for longer periods of time or for those relocating to Auckland. The fact that the kitchenette allows you to cook your own meals if you so choose will also help you save
