The City of Sails is fast becoming a “city that never sleeps”! Although we are heading away from Summer and into the cooler Autumn months there is a myriad of happenings in our great city of Auckland and especially in the next four weeks.
Easter heralded the start of the Term 1 school holidays for New Zealand schools. So, as you can imagine Auckland is brimming with school holiday ideas and activities for you to experience with your kids.
There are local community houses holding play days and the major shopping malls having daily shows and art activities for the kids. There are the more boutique options which are found in the more affluent areas of the city offering more academically inspired classes to lectures at the universities.
Auckland is a melting pot of cultures and interests. This means that no matter when you visit you will always find something to do.
If you are still wondering what to do with your children over the next two weeks a great option is to visit the StarDome Observatory and Planetarium. Their current school holiday programme is called Volcanoes in Space and it allows your kids to look at eruptions that have happened beneath the surface of planet Earth. Using a 180degree theatre, you can fly to Neptune’s frigid moon Triton, and onto Jupiter’s moon Io. There is a visit to Yellowstone National Park in the USA and then a Stardome presenter will help you explore the Night Sky and learn more about the wonders above. If you’re staying with us at Greenlane Manor then the StarDome Observatory and Planetarium is only 4.3km away from us.
Auckland has been privileged to host the Pop-Up Globe Theatre since 19 of February. If you remember studying Shakespeare at school and are finding your eyes already starting to glaze over, you need to stop! The Pop-Up Globe Theatre is a spectacular in itself. As a working replica of the theatre that the world acclaimed bard had his plays performed in medieval England, you can experience his masterpieces right here in Auckland. Due to the current shows rave reviews the season has been extended until May 9. If you’re staying with us at Greenlane Manor then the Pop-Up Globe Theatre is only 1.8km away from us
and an easy stroll or taxi ride to and from us.
If music is your thing, then the legendary Santana is playing at Auckland’s Vector Arena on Tuesday 18 April along with The Doobie Brothers. Santana is a guitar virtuoso, a multi Grammy Award winner and a Rock and Roll Hall of Famer. He hasn’t toured Australasia since 2013. If you’re staying with us at Greenlane Manor then although Vector Arena is only 8.5km away from us, due to parking costs in the city you may find that your best option of getting to the concert is by train on the Southern Line to Britomart Station in Auckland central and then walking a few hundred meters along to Vector.
If arts, theatre, kids or music isn’t your thing then May sees the next Joseph Parker fight at Vector Arena on May 6. Joseph Parker is New Zealand’s WBO World Heavyweight Champion and he is going to defend his title for the first time against the Pride of Manchester, WBO #1 Challenger Hughie Fury. It will be the first time in history that a genuine World Heavyweight Title will be defended in New Zealand. If you happen to be in the audience on that night you will find yourself part of an expected global broadcast audience of more than 100 million people.
No matter what brings you to Auckland, or even if you live in Auckland but want to avoid traffic and stay closer to the action of the City centre, then Greenlane Manor will have an accommodation option to suit your stay.
We are situated at 353 Great South Road in Ellerslie. We have plenty of secure parking if you are bringing your car or have a rental. All of our units are accessed by electronic swipe card so you can come and go from your accommodation as you please.
Ellerslie is a small but dynamic town. It is only 7kms away from Auckland’s city centre and public transport can be found right on our doorstep.
